Three texts: poetry and prose, of which one must be pre-1900, and Shakespeare play.

Examination includes to unseen poems

Assessment: Exam: 3 hours

Open book in section C only

40% of A level

Section A: Shakespeare.  One passage based question with linked essay

Section B: Unseen Poetry. On two unseen poems.

Section C: Comparing texts One question linking two texts Poetry (at least two poems) + prose

Paper 2: Texts in Shared Contexts

Choice of two options:

WW1 and its Aftermath

Modern Times: Literature from 1945 to the Present Day

Assessment: exam: 2 hours 30 mins

Open book

Section B: Contextual linking

  • One compulsory question on unseen extract
  • One essay question linking two texts

Coursework: Texts across Time

Comparative critical study of two texts, at least one of which must have been written pre-1900.

Extended essay (2500 words) + bibliography

20% of A-level
