I have been a Parent Governor since my eldest son, who is now in his third year at Cambridge University reading Materials Science, was in year 7. My youngest son has just left the College after very successfully completing his A levels and is now studying Photography at Falmouth University.
I am currently the Vice-Chair of the Teaching and Learning Committee and a member of the Performance and Pay Committee. I am also the Link Governor for Safeguarding & SEN and Careers/PSHE.
My background is in Science, I have a BSc(Hons) in Biological Science, and worked for several years in the Brewing and Food Industries dealing with Microbiological and Fermentation issues. In a change of career, I studied Agriculture and subsequently taught at Bicton College in the Animal Care Department until my children were born. I am also a Level 5 Qualified Counsellor.
I now live locally on a Smallholding with chickens, sheep and our numerous dogs and cats.
I am deeply passionate about education and the need to inspire young people to fulfil their potential both academically and socially. My role as Governor is one of critical friend; supporting, evaluating, sometimes asking difficult questions, but ultimately putting students at the core of HCC.
