I have been a Governor at Honiton Community College since 2009. I am now a member appointed governor but have also served as a co-opted governor and a parent governor (having been elected whilst my daughter attended the college).
Now retired, I have spent 32 years in primary education both as a teacher and in leadership and management roles. My professional experience and knowledge of younger pupils and the needs and requirements of the primary curriculum have proved helpful and useful in my governor role.
My background has led to me sitting on both the Curriculum and Finance committees. The reorganisation of the Governor committee structure has led to my election as Chair of the Teaching and Learning committee. I very much enjoy being linked to both the Sixth Form and Learning Support (SEN). I am one of the Safeguarding Governors and have also been the Link Governor for P.E.
I have also undertaken various temporary part time roles at the college, including Sixth Form Student Well Being Coordinator, Learning Support Teaching Assistant, exam invigilator and mini bus driver. This has had the benefit of giving me a much clearer understanding of how the college and its routines work and enabled me to get to know many more staff and students as well as being very enjoyable.
I believe wholeheartedly in "Success for All" and that all students deserve the very best education possible in all areas.
