Year 7 Residential – Great Potheridge House, Okehampton
As part of the process of settling in to life at Honiton Community College and to provide students and tutors with an opportunity to socialise and develop new skills outside of the College setting we run a short residential activity for all our year seven students each year. Please find below details of this year’s residential.
Tuesday 17th October – Wednesday 18th October – CMC & SMD
Thursday 19th October – Friday 20th October – SMA, KLA & JKI
The centre we are going to use is the Great Potheridge House, Merton, Okehampton, an AALA registered and very well respected centre.
Activities will vary depending on the weather. They should include; High Ropes, Raft Building and Team Building/Problem Solving activities. Activities will all be run by the qualified centre staff with Honiton Community College staff in support.
The groups will travel to and from the centre by coach leaving at 9am and returning by 3pm the following day.
Students will clearly need some of their own kit; attached is a recommended kit list. Any specialist kit is provided by the centre.
Students MUST bring a packed lunch for the first day; all other food for the trip will be provided within the cost of the trip. Food will include breakfast and an evening meal plus lunch for the second day. If students wish to bring some small snacks with them they can do so but these should be suitable items that will not perish; no refrigeration will be available for students own food.
Please ensure that the Medical / Contact details sheet is completed and returned to the Student Office by date Friday 9th September 2016. This must be returned before we can take your child on this trip. It also enables us to take the best possible care of your child. Please ensure that you contact us to update us of any changes that may occur in advance of the trip.
The cost of the residential is £68.00. Students in receipt of Free School Meals will be funded for this activity. If you wish to discuss any aspect of the cost or payment process please do get in touch with myself or with the Finance Office. Payments will be due as follows: Payment Schedule
Due by 31st July
Due by 31st August
All payments should be made via ParentPay. You will be given your Parentpay Registration details at Parents’ Evening on Tuesday 27th June 2017. If you require any further information regarding payments please contact the College Finance Office.
The aim of this activity is to allow all students to gain a valuable adventure experience. In order to do this it is vital that all students behave in an appropriate manner and follow all instructions given. Any student behaving in a manner considered by staff to be anti-social or a danger to themselves or others will immediately be sent home. This may also affect their participation in future trips run by the College.
Part of the residential experience is to be away from home, sometimes for the first time without parents. To help students gain their independence we ask that students do not take a mobile phone. In the event of an emergency please contact the school during school hours. In the event of an out of hours emergency please use the emergency contact below. Please ensure that it is only used in an emergency.
