Presentation of the 24hour Cycle Cheque
Students presented a cheque to Devon Air Ambulance's Captain Richard Tate on Friday following their 24hr cycle event held in March. Students and Staff cycled continuously to complete the mileage from John O Groats to Lands End and then as the target was completed within 12 hours – we cycled back again to John O Groats managing the complete round journey in just under the 24 hrs. The final amount of £1880.69 was an amazing effort by all who took part either cycling or lending their support by providing food , drink and plenty of encouragement – especially at 3am! Captain Tate started the event for us by cycling a few miles so we were delighted that he could return to receive the cheque and explain the importance of fundraising events like ours to support this lifesaving service.
Events like these really demonstrate the resilience, teamwork and determination our students develop whilst they study in sixth form and both Mr Smith, their tutors and myself are very proud in all that they achieve. We are however slightly worried about the challenge they will set for their 24hr event next year….
