National Citizen Service
The National Citizen Service hosted an assembly last week to Year 11 and 12 students inviting them to take part in this amazing programme this summer. Many of our ex-students have taken part in this national programme that sees individuals develop their own character, resilience and skills.
Sam Brunt and Danny Harris - NCS Engagement Officers also presented to Glenn Smith a NCS Champion College award in recognition of the success the programme has become within HCC and its students. Sam quotes “The awarding of the NCS Champion College plaque is testament to Honiton Community College’s continued support in allowing us to promote this incredible programme in their school, as well encouraging students to the opportunity and all it offers them. This, combined with particularly high levels of engagement from students before, during and after the NCS programme has contributed to a successful partnership and we hope to continue to build relations for years to come.”
Glenn Smith was delighted to accept the award and writes “We are proud to be the recipient of a NCS Champion College award. It recognises our drive to ensure Honiton students make the most of every opportunity. Being a rural school should not be an impairment to accessing national initiatives and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff that go out of their way to provide extra-curricular opportunities for our students; they really do make a lasting impact on their education and help mould the fine young adults they become”

24hr Charity Bike Ride (Poster attached)
Sixth Form students and staff will be challenging themselves to cycle the 847 miles from John O’Groats to Lands End over 24hrs from 1.30pm 16th March – 1.30pm 17th March. This will be held on 3 static bikes in the sixth form Centre tracking our progress virtually on the screen throughout the day and night! The Sixth Form Executive Team will be organizing the event and raising money for the Devon Air Ambulance with a Just Giving Page being set up for any welcome donations www.justgiving.com/fundraising/honitonsixthformbikeride . Any parents coming to the Year 11 Progress Evening that night are very welcome to come in and support us in any way they can by some words of encouragement as we make our way down the country.
Our last 24hr event “The Big Sleep Out” was an amazing success raising over £1000 for a local charity so the students are very much hoping that they will equal this amount with some great memories also being made.
